A mid-day visit on Dec 23 to Blackwater NWR was rewarded with views of
24 White Pelicans along the wildlife drive (up from the 13 sighted by Bob
Ringler just three days ago).  And as if that was not enough, an American
Bittern flew across the road in front of us as we were approaching the
Osprey Platform that is monitored each year.
    Our eldest grand daughter, age 8, recorded a total of 38 species for the
trip, which included a stop at Oakley Street in Cambridge.  At that site we
found Redhead, American Wigeon, Mallard, Canvasback, Greater Scaup and
Lesser Scaup.
