MD Osprey:
We have just updated a number of the documents on the MD/DCRC web
pages ... links to all of these documents can be found at our URL, here ...
http://www.mdbirds.org/mddcrc/rcindex.html
Summary and highlights:
1. Committee Members. The committee would like to thank the following
members that completed their service earlier this year: Don Broderick
(Salisbury, Wicomico County), J.B. Churchill (Frostburg, Allegany
County), Patty Craig (Dameron, St. Mary's County), and Hans Holbrook
(Baltimore). New members are: Tyler Bell (California, St. Mary's
County), Ray Kiddy (Frostburg, Allegany County), Ellen Lawler
(Salisbury, Wicomico County), and Marcia Watson (Elkton, Cecil
County). Continuing members are: Ed Boyd (Sykesville, Carroll
County), John Hubbell (DC), George Jett (Waldorf, Charles County),
Paul Pisano (Arlington, VA), and Sherman Suter (Port Republic,
Calvert County). Paul O'Brien (Rockville, Montgomery County)
continues as the Chair, and I continue as Secretary.
2. Maryland. The following new Maryland documents have been posted:
-- Official List of the Birds of Maryland: Five new species have been
added to the Maryland list: Neotropic Cormorant, Northern Lapwing,
Calliope Hummingbird, Cave Swallow, and Townsend's Warbler. The total
number of species on the MD list is now 429. A summary of all new
accepted records will appear in the next issue of The Maryland
Yellowthroat (or more details can also be found in the MD database, see below)
-- Maryland Species Review List: This list now reflects the new
species added, above. Also, Franklin's Gull has been removed from the
review list and the reviewable range of Common Raven is now only east
of the Piedmont (i.e., on the Coastal Plain).
-- Maryland Database: An abridged copy of the MD/DCRC MD database is
available (as a large PDF document -- this is searchable, but you
will not want to print it). The committee historical canvass is
nearing completion and this version of the database reflects most of
the historical and pre-MD/DCRC "reviewable" sightings. Also, all
known Monk Parakeet sightings have been added.
3. District of Columbia:
-- Official List of the Birds of DC: One new species was added: Dusky
Flycatcher. The new total for DC species is now 326.
-- DC Database: This PDF document has also been updated.
4. Other Documents:
-- The minutes of the MD/DCRC 2006 Annual Meeting are now posted.
-- An index of MD/DCRC reference and identification articles has been updated.
-- A status summary of recent review packages has also been updated.
I would like to thank the prior MOS webmaster, Fran Saunders, for all
her support and help with the MD/DCRC web pages over the years. Also,
thanks to the new MOS webmaster, Taylor McLean -- we look forward to
working with him.
