Blue Mash Nature Trail, Zion Road Section, Montgomery County, 10 Sep 06,
0730-1030

It was slow going at Blue Mash this morning compared to Thurdsday when the
trail was much more birdy. A hint of red in some trees was a harbinger of
changing seasons. Woodpeckers were this morning's notable species with 6
observed: Red-headed (flyover) (BMNT #149), Red-bellied, Downy, Hairy,
Northern Flicker and Pileated. Raptors included adult Red-Shouldered &
Red-tailed Hawks, Osprey and Turkey & Black Vultures.

Migrants were scarce. Excluding 2 very vocal White-eyed Vireos and several
empids, mostly single birds were observed: Blue Gray Gnatcatcher,
Blue-winged, Nashville (BMNT #148), Magnolia and B&W Warblers, Redstart,
Common Yellowthroat and Scarlet Tanager (juvenile).
