See Life Paulagics will be running its annual summer pelagic trip out
of Lewes, DE on Saturday, August 26. Our destination is the Baltimore
Canyon at the edge of the Continental Shelf, and we expect to be in
both DE and MD waters.
The big target bird at this time of year is the WHITE-FACED
STORM-PETREL. We saw this bird on our August '04 trip, and this is
the optimal time of year to look for them.
Other targets at this time of year include Long-tailed Jaeger, Bridled
& Arctic Tern, South Polar Skua, and Audubon's Shearwater. Cory's
Shearwater, Greater Shearwater, Wilson's Storm-Petrel, Pomarine
Jaeger, Red-necked Phalarope are all fairly regular. This is also a
good time for Fin Whale, Risso's, Common, and Bottlenose Dolphin, sea
turtles, Ocean Sunfish, and other marine life.
We will be sailing aboard the Thelma Dale IV, a fast, stable 85' boat
that we've used often. The boat has a cabin, bench and table space,
full walk-around below, an upper deck, and separate rest room for the
ladies. We will be sailing from Fisherman's Wharf in Lewes, DE.
The trip is scheduled to run from 5:00 AM to about 7:00 PM. The cost
is $140 per person, and this includes an appropriate tip for the mates.
We pride ourselves in providing excellently run pelagics. This trip will
have a minimum of 4 leaders, each chosen not only for their knowledge
but for their ability to help out the participants with sightings and
quesitons.
Be sure to check out our web site for information on how to sign up,
and to review our policies. If you have any questions or need more
information, please feel free to contact us by e-mail or phone.
We're also running a trip out of Belmar, NJ on Sunday, August 20 and
out of Freeport, NY on Sunday, September 10. This entire time period
is excellent for White-faced Storm-Petrel.
Hope to see you aboard!
