I agree with Danny Poet that the birds just love the berries in the 
mulberry tree.  For the past 2 days I have had a male Scarlet Tanager 
eating mulberries and singing.  Hope he sticks around.
I regularly see Downy and Red-bellied woodpeckers, Baltimore and Orchard 
Orioles, mockingbirds, and cedar waxwings (although they disappeared once 
the berries got ripe) eating mulberries.
I believe that the black mulberries are native.  The white mulberries are 
not.  The birds eat them both.
The Indigo Bunting was not in the mulberry tree today.  I caught it eating 
the first ripe black raspberry this morning.
