This is a heads up (I just heard of it) re: "Americas' Bird Trek 2006".
It's a live webcast occurring tomorrow (5-25) that plans to educate about
10,000 children (and anyone else who is interested) about neotropic
migratory birds, from 4 areas of the Americas that these birds inhabit.
It will enable them to see their habitats from 4 areas as they mograte
from S (Ecuador) to N (Canada). Here's an excerpt from the website
(http://sciq.ca/birdtrek_america.html):
"Imagine thousands of children from Lesser Slave Lake in Alberta, to
Quito, Ecuador, all going on a field trip to a nature center at the same
time. Now imagine students visiting four nature centers - in Ecuador,
Mexico, the U.S., and Canada - all during the same trip!
As part of a major outreach campaign in spring 2006 centered around a
hemisphere-wide celebration called International Migratory Bird Day, a
consortium of non-profits and technology firms, led by Parks and Protected
Areas a division of Alberta Community Development, Boreal Songbird
Initiative and SciQ, will host one of the world's most innovative
combinations of Internet technology and environmental education to help
celebrate this year's theme, the Boreal Forest."
