Sorry for the late post, finally getting a chance to report what I saw this
morning at Hains Pt, the polo fields just north the FDR memorial, and the
WWI memorial. It was a decent morning, though certainly not a huge fallout
by any stretch of the imagination. Half of the good birds that I saw were
not neotropical migrants. Here's the report:

1 Red-breasted Merganser (worn female) in the Washington Channel
2 LAUGHING GULLS flew by the point (always a good bird in DC in spring)
1 Red-tailed Hawk near the point
1 MERLIN (getting late) zipped by the point
1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird - WWI memorial, chasing a Great Crested
Flycatcher
2 Warbling Vireos - along the golf course and at the polo fields
1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Only 3 species of warbler - Yellow-rumped W. (12), Yellowthroat (3) and
Ovenbird (1)
1 DICKCISSEL - a very dull female actively feeding in the polo fields
1 GRASSHOPPER SPARROW - a very colorful bird at the polo fields that made my
heart skip a beat when I first saw it - it's been years since I've seen one
of these in DC since they stopped breeding at Kenilworth Park.
6 Savannah Sparrows - polo fields
1 Field Sparrow - polo fields
2 Chipping Sparrows - at the Hains Pt version of the Maintenance Yard (the
piles of dirt and mulch just below the golf course and near the bathrooms
3 Swamp Sparrows - Hains Pt Maintenance Yard
3 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS - all adults, Hains Pt Maintenance Yard
Including Song & White-throat, that's 8 species of sparrows; not bad for 1
day total in DC (and I'm sure there was a Lincoln's hiding out there, this
is usually a good spot for them)
3 Baltimore Orioles - various points along the golf course

Good birding,
