I've not gotten around to posting this week but Mike Bowen's message
spurred me on. My wife told me she saw a yellow-crowned night-heron
last May on the grounds of Stoneridge academy, near the junction of
355 and Cedar Lane in Bethesda. A friend from Garrett Park also told
me he saw a yellow-crowned at Rock Creek Park in Parkwood. Then on
the 24th, my neighbor described one, having seen it on his walk home
from the Metro, along Cedar Lane. Then, on April 26, my wife and
I--and a few minutes later my neighbor, who was on his way home
again--spotted an adult yellow-crowned night-heron from the sidewalk
on the east side of 355, looking into the property at Stoneridge
academy. It was actively feeding in the grass and we wondered if it
was catching worms (no crickets in the grass yet...).

I strongly suspect there is at least a pair or two nesting somewhere
off Beach Drive.
