Dear All
Sorry for the late posting of notable birds seen around the National
Wildlife Visitors Centre at Patuxent twixt 8am and 10am yesterday when out
for a walk with Dave Curson.
Three Red-breasted Nutchatches were amongst a mixed species flock seen from
the driveway in to the centre - also there Pileated and Hairy Woodpeckers
and a singing Phoebe.
Around the centre were an Osprey, 2 snipe, Pine Warbler (1 see 2 heard),
Golden-crowned Kinglet, another Red-breasted Nutchatch heard calling, 4
Bluebirds, 30 Tree Swallows plus lots of sparrows including Songs, Field,
White-throated and Swamp.
Highlight bird of the day for me though was a very obliging Vesper Sparrow
found feeding on the gravel area just to the lakeward side of the centre's
entrance. A world tick for me.
Cheers
Gary Allport
