Double-crested Cormorants are back on the colony on the Potomac at mile marker 8 on the C&O Canal. I counted about 20 nests this morning, of which all but 3 were occupied. This is a little bit more than I've been able to count in previous years.
Earlier I spent a few hours along upper River Rd. No unusual sparrows, though a lot of Chipping Sparrows now in (saw maybe 40 in total at different spots), and White-crowned Sparrows are still along W Offutt Rd and in song. Eastern Meadowlark were at a number of locations, including Club Hollow Rd.
