This AM I came across 3 (Wilson's) Snipe in the "ultra- barrierine"
section of K'worth Park, where I had not seen this species before. The
spot was not particularly wet or seepy, tho' there are such spots in the
area.
Curiously, 2 of the snipe were so closely associated, both at rest and
in flight, as to suggest a pair bond. This seems strange if the birds
form pairs only after reaching the breeding grounds. There can be no
question of breeding grounds anywhere near-by, so far outside their
range as DC is; the nearest locale would be Jug Bay if indeed anywhere
in MD.
