My biggest laugh occured one spring break on Santa Rosa Island, Pensacola FLA.
My friend and I spotted a huge gray bird in the top of a tree & assumed it was a great-blue heron. The bird took off & we both commented that the bird looked like it had a broken neck. We howled in laughter when we later realized we had a sandhill crane, a lifebird for both of us.
We got a second chuckle in Laguna Atascosa NWR this past weekend at the field of great-blue herons with broken necks.
A red-breasted nuthatch continues to visit my feeders. Also had a male yellow-bellied sapsucker this morning...possibly a yardbird!
