Due to an utter lack of a birding life due to my school schedule, I only get to bird watch out the windows on weekends.  I'm putting in 12-16 hr days in the ICU at a local hospital, so I'm even commuting in the dark.
   
  Today I was rewarded with more Purple Finches in one location than I've ever seen before.  The flock was more than a couple dozen and for once easily out numbered the House Finches, which have been seriously declining in my neighborhood.  The Purple Finches were jockeying for position on the several feeders in the yard.
   
  Also had a Yellow-belled Sapsucker at the maple tree.  The Goldfinches have been chowing down on the thistle feeder.  
   
  Kathie - who wishes she could be outside enjoying one of the mildest MD January's on record, but is stuck inside studying Advanced Pharmacology and Internal Medicine.
