As I was getting ready to go to work this morning around 8:30
am, I wondered why our bird feeder was dead quiet. (We had had 12+
species on Sunday). Glancing out the window a few minutes later, I saw
the answer: a healthy looking raptor was perching on the branch from
which we hang seed and thistle feeders. This is about 8-10 feet away
from the house.
I snapped a quick (and unfortunately, bad) photo before it flew
away, revealing a bit of tail stripe that confirmed it as a
Red-Shouldered Hawk.
Definitely a new yard bird!
