I had my first of the winter fox sparrow in my yard on Sunday morning.
A beautiful bird. Unfortunately, I was able to appreciate its beauty
very closely because it crashed into my front window and died.
My first thought was that the sharp shinned hawk had made a pass,
but when I examined the sparrow, I noted that it was blind in its
right eye and that may have contributed to its demise. (The right eye
was shriveled and shrunken. I do not believe the impact caused this problem.)
Other yard birds of note ... a winter wren and a ruby crowned kinglet with his ruby
crown just shining in the morning light.
