Hi All,
The Kent County Bird Club's Kentish Plovers will be conducting their fourth annual Big Sit count on Sunday 9 October. A Big Sit is a count taken entirely from a small count circle (18 feet in diameter) in one 24-hour period. In our case the longest we have Big Sat is around ten hours. Our record count is 62 species. This year we will be counting from a new location; the observation tower at the end of the Tubby Cove Boardwalk at Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge. This is an attempt to get some mature trees nearby to our circle while continuing a good view of open sky, adjacent tidal marsh, and a good high-angle view of the Eastern Neck Narrows. On the debit side we will lose the good tidal flat at the Narrows proper, but unpredictable winds and tide height always made that hit-or-miss anyway. We hope to see some of you there as we sit our way to a new record (we hope).
Good Birding,
Walter Ellison
