While doing Atlas work in the Fairmount Wildlife Management Area today I
found two pairs of very active Black-necked Stilts. I didn't hurry up to
the Deal Island WMA to see if the two pairs I saw up there several weeks
ago are still there, but the Fairmount birds are likely a different two pairs.
Also at Fairmount was a single calling Greater Yellowlegs.
So far, no DIckcissels found in Somerset Co., but I may not be stopping in
the right habitat enough. I have been finding Grasshopper Sparrows to be
common, if the "right" habitat is surveyed. The right habitat is rather
tricky define, but, like pornography, I know it when I see it. Please send
any wise-A comments off list.
