What are the most exotic or unexpected species that cowbirds are known to
have parasitized? Is there any pattern to nest height and/or location in
victim species?

It seems to be Annoying Fledgling Day here -- we too had a cowbird chick
(being fed by a Song Sparrow), and there was a shrill treeful of starlings
recently emerged from the nest.

This morning we confirmed LA Waterthush but unfortunately feeding a
cowbird chick. This is the 4th year we have covered this area (Triadelphia
Rd) and never had VEERIES before. Today we found at least 4 different birds-
a couple singing. An AMERICAN REDSTART was also nice to find.
