Greetings.
I was at Lake Roland from 4:00-8:00 this afternoon/evening. Despite the
clouds and a bit of rain, it was a great walk. Total of 56 species.
The highlight of the day was a Barred Owl. I was walking along the main
trail along the Jones Falls (close to the old RR bridge) when I caught its
shape out of the corner of my eye. It was low in a tree right across the
canal. When I focused my binocs we stared at each other for a few seconds
before he/she flew. Nice.
At the Falls:
Great Blue: 1
BCN Heron: 2
No Yellow-crowns as of 8:00.
On and around the mudflats:
A few Spotted and Solitary Sandpipers
Semipalamted Sandpiper
Killdeer
Tree, NRW and Barn Swallows
Chimney Swifts
B. Kingfisher
C. Goose: two discernable broods foraging on the flats
Further north and west along the trail:
Wood Duck: 1 hen with 4 young
Pileated Woodpecker
Catbird: several
E. Bluebird: Near the old RR bridge
Wood Thrush: at least 4
Cedar Waxwing: two small groups
