I was viewing a ruby throat hummingbird behind the maintenance yard in Rock 
Creek Park.  The gorget was a brilliant goldish orange which leads to my 
question.

Would this be a trick of light?  Or, do ruby throats have a broad color range 
which might go from this color to purple?
