The Mall was fairly birdy this morning, the best spots being Constitution
Gardens and the area between the Vietnam Vets Memorial and the Lincoln
Memorial.  BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON kicked things off, flying up the
Potomac over the Arlington Memorial Bridge.  The pond at Constitution
Gardens had five SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, and was swarming with CHIMNEY SWIFTS
and BARN SWALLOWS.  Six N. ROUGH-WINGED, two TREE, a BANK, and a CLIFF
SWALLOW were also part of the mix.

The stretch between the Vietnam Vets Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial was
very productive -- WOOD THRUSH, HERMIT THRUSH, and OVENBIRD were hopping
about, feeding amidst loads of WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS. The WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROW was still present (and very cooperative).  Singing away in the
canopy were YELLOW, YELLOW-RUMPED, MAGNOLIA, and BLACK-THROATED BLUE
WARBLERS, AM. REDSTART, N. WATERTHRUSH, WHITE-EYED VIREO, and BALTIMORE
ORIOLE.

Around the Korean War Memorial were several EASTERN TOWHEES, BLUE-HEADED
VIREO, SCARLET TANAGERS, N. WATERTHRUSH, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, and BLACK-
AND-WHITE WARBLER.
