Hi all
I just read an article in a Frederick newspaper regarding the "possible
extinction" of the red knot by the year 2010. The article was
unbelievable!! What a sad thing to happen. It stated that the probable
cause was the overharvesting of the horsecrab. The article states that
"17,600 birds were counted in Tierra del Fuego in February--13000 fewer
birds than last year at the same time". Also noted in the article--"once
100,000 red knots flocked to the Delaware Bay but last year there were
only 13,315". I am sadden by the fact that yet another bird is joining the
endangered/extinct list.
Good birding to all,
