Was going to try to find Hughes Hollow again. Somehow I missed and wound up
at Edwards' Ferry instead. No big deal. I never really need to know where I
am anyway.
    Had a 5-woodpecker day - one short of the 6 I had last week at Noland's
Ferry. (On that trip I was headed for Alberta. but I made yet another wrong
turn.) This week I missed the sapsucker. Who told them they could leave,
anyway? Also missed Redheaded again.
    Walking along the 'towpath', I had to stop every now and then to sort
out the mixed flock of little guys feeding on it - usually PALM WARBLER,
YELLOW RUMPED WARBLER and AMERICAN GOLDFINCH. However there were also some
NORTHERN JUNCOS, CHIPPING SPARROWS AND WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, very nicely
colored up for the trip north. One's head was so brightly colored I thought
at first he was a white-crowned. Also had good looks at RUBY-CROWNED
KINGLET, BROWN THRASHER, HOUSE WREN and EASTERN BLUE BIRD and not so good
looks at 2 WOOD DUCKS, a D.C. CORMORANT and a TURKEY.
    Bluebells seem to be peaking and I found some Duchman's Breeches growing
in the middle of a tree fork. Lots of frogs singing but I need more practice
with them. Anybody have a good website for frog songs?
