MD Osprey / BRCF-L:
The MD/DC Records Committee (MD/DCRC) has updated key data products on its
web pages at this URL ...
http://www.mdbirds.org/mddcrc/rcindex.html
Highlights:
1. Updated Official Lists for MD and DC. The MD species total is now 424.
The DC species total is now 325.
2. Updated Review Lists for MD and DC:
Maryland Review List changes: As of 30 March 2005, the following
MD changes were made: American White Pelican will no longer be reviewed in
MD (all reports prior to 30 Mar will be reviewed); Rufous Hummingbirds will
no longer be reviewed in MD (observers are still strongly encouraged to
report and have "western" hummingbird banded since rarer species are
difficult to separate - note Rufous Hummingbirds are still reviewable in
DC); Swallow-tailed Kite will no longer be reviewed in MD; the reviewable
range of Common Raven in MD is redefined as "south and east of Frederick
AND Montgomery Counties;" Cackling Goose will not be reviewable in MD
(although subspecies other than _hutchinsii_ should be reported and are
reviewable as "subspecies/forms unusual to MD"); and Great Skua is now
reviewable anywhere in MD.
DC Review List changes: Lark Sparrow and Yellow-headed Blackbird
are now reviewable in DC.
3. Updated Abridged MD/DCRC Databases for MD and DC records and reports.
More fields have been added to these PDF reports and a new format is used.
These reports are primarily intended as searchable on-line references. The
MD database listing report is quite long. (I would not recommended printing
it!)
4. Updated List Chronologies ("list histories") showing the years in which
species were added to the Official MD and DC lists.
5. Minutes from the MD/DCRC Annual Meeting, held on 5 Mar 2005.
6. A recent review package status report. A summary listing of the reports
that are currently in circulation and those that have been circulated
within the past six months or so.
7. Updated index of identification and reference articles contained in the
MD/DCRC reference library.
8. MD Subspecies Review List. This is the first time this information has
even been published. A number of years ago, the MD/DCRC formed a Subspecies
Review Subcommittee to study and make recommendations as to which unusual
subspecies or forms should be reviewed in MD. Marshall Iliff took on this
project and has drafted a very complete and detailed annotated checklist of
subspecies seen in Maryland. This manuscript should be published in the
future, however, recommendations from his paper form the content of this
initial subspecies review list.
9. A listing of the current committee members.
I would like to thanks the MOS Web Site Director, Fran Saunders, for
posting all of these data products!
