Two Osprey came soaring up Leeds Creek this morning around 7:40 -
and went right past my empty Osprey platform before disappearing upstream.
They have not returned.
	These birds were a bit late.  First arrival dates for Osprey here in
recent years were: March 9, 2002, March 10, 2003, and March 9, 2004.  

	In addition the the passing Osprey, a single Pine Siskin showed up
amongst the multitudes of American Goldfinches.  The siskin had only been
absent for a few days.

	Numerous Blue Jays continue at the feeders - six or seven in a group
at several times during the day.
	Regarding the bird pecking order - my Brown Thrasher demands and
maintains a pecking distance of about 12 inches from all of the other birds,
including the Blue Jays.  The Thrasher  is not hesitant about enforcing it
if any Blue Jay chooses to try to encroach.  I have not seen any Blue Jay
challenge the Thrasher.  They all hastily retreat when the Thrasher darts
towards them.
	The Siskin amongst the Goldfinches is a similar matter.  Today, the
Siskin decided to feed from a thistle sock where at least 10 Goldfinches
were sharing happily.  The Siskin hit the top Goldfinch on one side of the
sock, then proceeded to knock aside the next three down that side of the
sock before settling in to dine on the seed.  Quite a feisty little bird!
