If I am diligent, I often find that North Beach normal residents are canvasback and redheads, this week I found my first raft of surf scoters. Probably over a thousand of them. If you say there were 500 canvasback and 100 redheads, then there were over 1500 surf scoters on frIday-sat. Quite a sight for me (south of the boardwalk).
The hooting and cooing in the afternoon sun sounded like spring time or a swamp of frogs.
Also noted a handful of common goldeneye, a couple white winged scoters, a dozen lesser scaup, a red headed merganser, some grebe. |
