It's not rare--apparently even increasing in numbers--but every time I
stumble across a Pileated Woodpecker my jaw drops! I just can't fathom a
woodpecker the size of a crow! Anyway, it happened again this morning at
Turkey Point. Walking the trail in the woods between the hawk watch and the
Northeast River, I heard some deep tapping and located the gaudy bird
working over a dead tree. Wow!

Other highlights at Turkey Point--
Bald Eagle flying at eye level from the cliffs
Greater Scaup--raft of 150
Common Goldeneye--"raft" of 30 near the shore
American Kestrel

North East Community Park--
Lesser Black-backed Gull--2 adults
Common Merganser

North East Commerce Park--
Bluebird
Red-shouldered Hawk--juvenile, perched, flying and landing at close range
