I was walking up the stairs at work when Jim Stasz rushed past me the
other way saying that Hans Holbrook found a Black-headed Gull on
Schoolhouse Pond! I grabbed my bins and rushed back down. Hans had the
bird in his scope. The bird was on the ice, near some open water.
It is an adult bird, with the mostly red bill, black ear spot, and red
legs. We got great looks at it through the scope as it stood on the ice,
preened, and walked about. The bird is still down there (as of 3:30 pm),
and Hans is trying to get some pictures of it.
