Whenever I went out today (9-29-04) there seemed to be another flock or two of Canada Geese going over. I was checking the local lakes to see if Jeanne left behind any interesting birds. Answer: none.
At Liberty Lake were 23 Canada Geese, 1 Black Duck, and 1 Green-winged Teal.
At Piney Run Park I checked the lake then did some landbirding:
Great Blue Heron 3
Green Heron 2
Canada Goose 40, + 260 highflyers that did not stop
Wood Duck 1
Baldpate 1
Black Duck 5
Mallard 25
Green-winged Teal 1
Ruddy Duck 3, arrival
Osprey 1
Kestrel 1
Phoebe 1
Blue Jay - small flocks migrating
Golden-crowned Kinglet - 1, ties the county arrival date record.
Catbird - still common
Red-eyed Vireo 1
Chestnut-sided Warbler 1
Magnolia Warbler 3
Yellow-rumped Warbler 1, arrival
Black-throated Green Warbler 1
Black-&-white Warbler 1
Ovenbird 1
Chat 1, rarely seen here in migration
Indigo Bunting 2
At home another flock of 140 Canada Geese went over.
Westminster Reservoir - nothing on the lake but a flock of 49 geese flew over.
Hashawha Env. Ctr. - another flock of geese going over, not counted. Landbirds there included 3 Yellowthroats, 1 Swamp Sparrow, and my first White-throated Sparrow of the fall in Carroll.
