Ken and I were walking near Wilde Lake in Columbia this morning. At
approximately 11:30 am we saw a juvenile heron in the stream above the
lake (behind Beaverbrook, near Harper's Choice). I thought it might be a
Yellow-crowned Night Heron, but we figured it was much more likely to be
a Black-crowned. But when we got home and compared the photographs we
had taken with Sibley's, we were surprised to see that they did look
much more like Sibley's picture of the Yellow-crown, with the long neck,
dark bill, and white-edged wing feathers.

I'd appreciate it if some more experienced birders would look at the
photos and tell me whether it's a YCNH or a BCNH. They're the first five
pictures on this page:

To see each picture, click on the thumbnail. Note that you can view the
pictures in four sizes, from small to original (which is extremely
large), so you can magnify it to whatever degree you want to.

Thanks!
