The last week has been fairly bleak around Howard. A warbler here and there. The reservoir has hosted killdeer and caspian terns. Yesterday showed some promise in the yard with LEAST FLYCATCHER and a new yard bird (MOURNING WARBLER). A nice hike at Rockburn this morning produced the same two species as my yard highlights. We had 8 other species of warblers. 6 VEERIES, numerous flycatchers and vireos. Nothing spectacular but a hint of fall in the air. CHIPPING SPARROW and SONG SPARROW (I know they weren't migrants but I can't resist starting the countdown to sparrow-time!).
BLUE GROSBEAK feeding young was a nice confirmation.
