[MDOsprey] Owl impression

Hi all,
My friend has already called me fanciful, but at the risk of being
called loony I wanted to inform you about my discovery this morning. I
glanced out the storm door to see what was at one of my feeders when I
noticed a print on the glass. It is the telltale mark of an owl that
hit the glass head on. You can see the leading edge of the wings; the
feather edges of the breast feathers; the eye lids; the feathers
encircling the eyes and, I believe, even a hint of the bill and toe
nails. It is too small for any of the expected owls except Northern
Saw-whet or Eastern Screech-Owl. I think the wings look too short for
an Eastern Screech-Owl, so I am voting for saw-whet (wishful thinking?).
I didn't know windows were hazards for nocturnal birds. I wonder if it
was being chased by a larger owl or after the mouse that sometimes
frequents my front porch. In any case, my friend now believes what I
said. She joined the ranks of the fanciful after she saw it.
