Hi folks,
went with a couple friends to the eastern shore
today. Nothing spectacular, but some good stuff.
Of note: did NOT find the Eurasian Wigeon at WOC
pond. Anyone seen it lately? Also didn't have
any Northern Shovellors, which I seem to recall
being there every other time I went in previous
years. Lots of other stuff there:
(from memory)
Tundra Swan
Am. Wigeon
Canada Goose
Green-winged Teal
Mallard
Am. Black Duck
PB Grebe
Ring-necked Duck
Coots
Gadwall
GB Heron
Both Scaup (great color on both drakes, up close)
Pintail
Ruddy Duck
At Assateague & south end of OC: (also from
memory)
NO pelicans, NO Great Corms, NO Oldsquaw
4 Tri-colored Herons (is this late?)
many, many, many Gannets, mostly adults.
tens of Black and Surf Scoter, but no WWSC.
No winter finches
several Bonaparte's Gulls working the OC inlet
4 Forster's Terns
1 Royal Tern (late? sorry I don't have the yellow
book at the library. I am really asking just to
point it out to others)
A good number of RBNU
Many (of course) Myrtles.
Delaware stuff:
Cape Henlopen had recent reports of lots of
winter finches. We got there too late to see
anything other that PUFI. Got the BHNU and 2
HOGR, but no Snow Buntings, Evening Grosbeaks,
Common Redpolls, or either Crossbill, all of
which have been reported.
Got a poor look at what was very likely an Osprey
at silver lake.
Got to see a Sharpie make 3 swoops at a lucky
Monk Parakeet.
Good birding!
