I recently purchase a Leica APO-TELEVID 77 .
Because I was confused by all the advise I was getting on spotting scopes,
I went to the New Jersey Audubon's: Center for Research and Education , Cape May
Court House, NJ 08210, 609-861-0700, which is on Rt. 47 near Goshen. I compared
all the top brands. I lined them up and compared apples to apples right there
on their deck. The Leica APO-TELEVID 77 had the clearest optics and produced
the sharpest image. Unfortunately it has the highest price and was the heaviest
of the ones I compared. I've found it excellent, although I am having some
problems getting used to the 45 degree eyepiece.
I got the 32x wide-angle eyepiece. It was definitely sharper than the zoom
(I expected this), but the zoom was surprisingly sharp too. Better than the
others.
I purchase the scope from one of the photography warehouses in New York;
Adorama. (save a few hundred $)
Parke.

Subject: [MDOsprey] Spotting Scopes
Does anyone out there have a favorite spotting scope (who can tell me why
it's their favorite) or who knows data on comparisons of spotting scopes?
