We were cold this morning, but it was worth it. Roger Stone and I =
found a lifer for both of us- a female BLACK SCOTER*** on the Potomac =
between Violette's and Riley's Locks in Montgomery County, MD. We =
watched it for several minutes before it flew south along the river. =20
There were also several PURPLE FINCHES near the parking lots of both =
Violette's and Riley's, and at least a couple of PINE SISKINS near the =
parking lot at Riley's Lock.
=20
Other highlights included:=20
- 2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS
- 2 BALD EAGLES=20
- several YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS
- something that sounded like a PEWEE in the Riley's Lock parking lot, =
which was also heard by two other birders. We didn't find the bird. =
Any ideas? Starling maybe?=20
- BLUE-HEADED VIREO
- 2 or 3 WINTER WRENS
- BAY-BREASTED/BLACKPOLL WARBLER
*** The 'Yellow Book' suggests that this bird should be reported to =
Maryland Birdlife. Does anyone know to whom the report should be sent =
and what other information, if any, needs to be contained in the report? =
Thanks.
