Regarding Pine Siskins...
I think they are all over. People are reporting them all over the
state. Everywhere except Phil Davis' house I do believe.
In the last 2 weeks alone I have found them at Finzel Swamp Preserve
(Garrett County), Greenbelt, MD, (Prince George's County), 15 Mile Creek
(Allegany County) and U of MD farm (Howard County).
They have not appeared at their usual feeder in Frostburg though I am
finding a Red-breasted Nuthatch there regularly. I am told by friends that I am
being counted on to find Redpolls and their ilk, but I can't be held responsible
if they don't show up at my door. I am confident that they are on their way.
In addition to Siskins, I did have 5 Fox Sparrows at Finzel Swamp on
Sunday and later a Winter Wren. There are a few more species of Waterfowl at
Meadows CG than the last time I checked. I picked up 2 Pintails, 2 Redheads, 29
Ring-necked Ducks, 14 Ruddy Ducks, 4 Hooded Mergansers, some Coots, Pied-billed
Grebes, and 2 Double-crested Cormorants, a single Tundra Swan and close to 300
Canada Geese there on Sunday.
