Spent three hours this afternoon in the Hughes Hollow area. Came =
out mainly to watch the evening duck flight, but also walked around the =
western end of McKee-Beshers. Really too warm for much bird activity: =
had a nice group of 15 Golden-crowned Kinglets near Sycamore Landing and =
had 3 Winter Wrens for the day. At least 3 Barred Owls were calling.
In the large impoundment there were 3 Pied-billed Grebes and a =
female Ruddy Duck. Saw at least 100 Wood Ducks, 8 mallards and 38 =
Canada Geese coming in to roost after sunset.
There was a field trial this weekend along Sycamore Landing Road. =
As a result there are now several Chuckars in the area. I saw 5 on the =
road and heard at least 2 more. They are more prone to run than fly , =
but are fully capable of strong flight. I suspect predators will make =
quick work of them.
