Hi All: Naturally, since we had a scheduled field trip today, the raptor flight was slower than slow; in fact, easily the slowest flight all season!!! Oh well, 12 birders from Delaware, Maryland and Pennslyvania enjoyed a reasonably successful outing for passerines, 64 species total including the few raptor species that showed themselves. We were redeemed late in the morning when a BALD EAGLE finally flew over. All enjoyed excellent looks at BLUE-HEADED VIREO. Several late GNATCATCHERS surprised us. EASTERN SCREECH OWL called quite vigorously in response to our own imitations. Warbler migration down to a trickle, with only outgoing BLACKPOLL and BLACK-THROATED BLUE and arrivals of PALM and YELLOW-RUMP. Other winter arrivals included BROWN CREEPER, both KINGLETS, WHITE/RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, HERMIT THRUSH and JUNCO. CASPIAN TERN was spotted at the point. Transients PINE SISKIN and PURPLE FINCH were both present and first called by Sean McCandless with his excellent ear; he also co-led the trip. Leslie Fisher Cecil Co.
