Hi,
When Jim Stasz mentioned going to a post to watch for hurricane birds, I
got interested. I knew that I was obliged to do the Fall count in Allegany
County on Saturday though so I could not justify zooming down there for one day
on Friday.
Thursday I spent an hour after work watching open areas around Deep
Creek Lake. 2 Mallards for my trouble and a lot of rain water blowing in
through the car window.
Friday at Rocky Gap in nice weather but no birds of any note. Later on
the same day at Belle Grove WMA I noticed 3 broadwings, a sharpie and an adult
Bald Eagle. Being close to Town Hill, I decided it would be worth a try.
Very blue skies and a total of 13 broadwings after 2 hours, 1 Cooper's
Hawk, 2 or 3 Sharp-shinned Hawks, 2 American Kestrals and 2 Red-tailed Hawks.
On Saturday, staying close to home paid off with a Mourning Warbler
along the C&O Canal near Oldtown.
