Well, just when I didn't think things could get better (then starting
the day with a RB NUT) I looked out this eve and spotted a MERLIN
perched on a dead snag behing the house. It stayed breifly and then flew
off. There have been Merlin(s)? almost every year that hang around my
house from late august on. Hopefully this one( and I wonder if it is the
same bird each year?) will hang around.
It was a banner day in the yard with SCARLET TANAGER, BALTIMORE
ORIOLES, COMMON NIGHTHAWKS, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER and alot of activity
from the usual crowd. The BLUEBIRDS were in evidence with both broods of
young flycatching from the snags.

p.s. Dave Holyoke reported a imm. YC night heron and Great Egret from
the pond near the social security bldg in Baltimore county.
