Sorry for the late posting (didn't get home until after midnight) but my 
husband and I saw the White Pelican yesterday, 8/21 at approximately 5 PM 
from the Jones Pt. parking lot. It was on the far shore paddling vigorously 
upriver and crossed the DC boundary to the area just opposite the 295 
bridge. At that point it took flight, catching a thermal and soaring higher 
and higher in the air. At this point we had to leave, so I can't say where 
it went from there.
