Drove in on River = Road checking the wires for swallows, looked out over the river at = Sycamore Landing, and made a big loop from the impoundments west through = the forest of dead trees to Horsepen Branch and Sycamore Landing Road = and back through the fields to the impoundments. Breeding activity is diminishing but did hear singing acadians, = house wrens, yellowthroats, field sparrows, cardinals, and indigo = buntings. Insect calling is more common now . This is also the time of = year when spider webs are everywhere. Birds Seen: Great Blue Heron-2, Great Egret-3, Green Heron-4, Turkey Vulture-1, = Canada Goose-47, Wood Duck-10 (six of these were large young with no = adults in sight), Red-shouldered Hawk-2, Mourning Dove-6, Downy = Woodpecker-3, Eastern Wood-Pewee-4. Acadian Flycatcher-3, Eastern = Phoebe-1, White-eyed Vireo-2, Red-eyed Vireo-1(with fledgling cowbird), = American Crow-1, Rough-winged Swallow-57 (down from a high count of 229 = last saturday), Barn Swallow-2, Carolina Chickadee-7, Tufted Titmouse-4, = White-breasted Nuthatch-1,Carolina Wren-6, House Wren-7, Blue-gray = Gnatcatcher-5, Common Yellowthroat-6, Field Sparrow-2, Cardinal-9, = Indigo Bunting-8, Red-winged Blackbird-1, Common Grackle-6, American = Goldfinch-9 and a possible Blue Grosbeak at the intersection of River = and Hughes Road. Last Friday I had 3 of them about 50 yds east of = Sycamore Landing Road and River Road.
