On a trip to the shore with Bill Kulp the Little Egret at Bombay
Hook was visible at close range in Shearness Pool for most of the morning
on Saturday, July 17. It has lost its breeding plumes and is more
difficult to pick out. Also seen were 1 Wilson's Phalarope, hundreds of
dowitchers, 1 Stilt Sandpiper, a few Pectoral Sandpipers, and hundreds of
peeps (Semi, Western, and Least). Willets and 1 partial-breeding plumage
Sanderling were along Port Mahon Road. Ted Harvey Wildlife Area was dry.
On the return home a stop at the Ridgely sewage ponds produced a
large number of waterbirds including 60 Canada Geese, 75 Mallards, 200
Killdeer, 2 Greater Yellowlegs, 150 Lesser Yellowlegs, 5 Spotted
Sandpipers, 100 peeps including Semi and Least sandpipers, 1 Pectoral
Sandpiper, and 1 Stilt Sandpiper.
