The St. Mary's County, MD, Kelp Gull continues at the piers behind the
Sea Breeze Restaurant in Sandgates. The gull was seen on July 6, reported by
restaurant staff on July 8, seen on July 11, and reported by restaurant
staff on July 12.
Please note that weekends (espeically from noon onward on both Saturdays
and Sundays) mean increased boat and human traffic at in the area of the
restaurant and the gull is often being reported as not seen. However, the
busy weekends are also when staff at the restaurant are less likely to have
time to check for the gull, so it might actually be around and just not
being reported. Did that make sense?
An additional note modifies a statement I made recently about the white
terminal band. While considerably smaller (less wide) than it originally
was, the white terminal band IS still visible, particularly when the Kelp
Gull flies (my comment was based on viewing the seated bird only).
If you need directions, drop me an email.
