[MDOsprey] Bird clocks, Oriole songs and Pavlov's Dog...

Folks,
A rather humerous story to share, perhaps to take the "edge" off other
discussions here. (This, by the way, is occuring in MARYLAND!).
We recently got a new puppy, back on Mother's Day; a yellow Labrador
Retriever, bred in LaPlata from excellent lineage. He was literally the pick
of the litter and our new pride and joy. Anyone who knows labs knows also how
they do love to eat. Peanut is certainly no different. Next to sleeping and
playing, eating is his favorite activity. He can polish off 2 cups of food,
while sitting and wagging his tail (he obviously enjoys himself while eating)
in just about 4 minutes!
Well, we also happen to have one of those infamous bird clocks (so popular
last summer), which sings on the hour. Peanuts feeding time is precisely 6 AM
and 6 PM. As you may have guessed by now, when he hears the Baltimore Oriole
sing, he goes absolutely crazy, running around and jumping excitedly, ready
to eat. He can be busily chewing a bone, sleeping, or playing with someone or
something, but when that oriole sings, his ears perk up and away he goes!
When my wife first told me about this behavior, I really thought it was it
was just a coincidence; a one-time thing. The next day I witnessed it for
myself; what a riot! Now, twice a day we all look forward to feeding time
with the same eagerness as Peanut!
