Folks, I arrived at the main marsh and boardwalk trail (park at the Huntley Meadows nature center) at about 1535. The Swallow-tailed Kite immediately appeared to the south flying low over the trees. It flew in that area for several minutes, moving towards the tree snag area (in which gum trees are now growing). The next sighting was over a half hour later. Sporadic observations were made until about 1730. At least 12 people have spotted the bird today. The bird was originally spotted about 1230 and was often seen near a Mississippi Kite which has been frequenting Huntley for the last month or more. Best looks can be gotten from the tower, but when the bird is dragon-fly hunting over the east woods, that area is difficult or impossible to see from the tower. It may be best to look east from the main boardwalk area (besides, the King Rail frolics keeps your attention!). Cross your fingers that it shows up tommorrow! Kurt Gaskill
