Sorry it has taken so long to answer but have been in training. Canada
Geese sometimes form what is called 'a gang brood' with one pair or
even 2 females 'in charge' of multiple broods. I have seen large gang
broods here at Patuxent WRC. I have also seen them with only one adult
in attendance but in my experience there are usually two. Hope this
helps.
Cheers,

Earlier today I saw, on the lake outside my office window
(one of the lakes near Lake Forest Mall in Gaithersburg),
a single adult Canada Goose leading a line of *18* goslings
- with no other adult within 100 yards. Any speculation on
how this situation came to be?
