Our team covered the north shore of the Triadelphia Reservoir and
surrounding areas from Brighton dam (under reconstruction) to Georgia
avenue. We had a very good day and tallied 93 species, including 18 species
of warbler. The birds were plentiful and remained active all day, even
during a foggy morning.
Notable Sightings:
Adult Bald Eagle flew over
Bobwhite heard (Georgia avenue end)
Gray-cheeked Thrush, with very dark back, excellent view. This bird was in
the same place (near the "Pigtail" boat ramp) where I had seen Gray cheeks
three or four times in the last 20 years that I have done the May count in
this territory.
White-crowned Sparrows
Unusually high numbers:
Yellow-throated Vireo
Veery
Black and White Warbler
Particularly good views:
Wood Thrush
Veery
Gray-cheeked Thrush
Magnolia Warbler
Louisiana Waterthrush
Kentucky Warbler
Missed (but find most years in this territory):
Red-tailed Hawk
Gulls
Hummingbird
Rough-winged Swallow
Blue-winged Warbler
Canada Warbler
The overall impression was one of being inundated by birds. Numbers
(concentration) were up and total numbers seen/heard were up due to the
daylong activity. We had trouble completing our usual circuit due to the
time spent looking at the birds!!
