No birdies but some birds

Dear MDOspreyers,
In my other life (the one that does not center on birds), my son asked me to
go golfing on Saturday. Wanting to learn something the two of us could do
together, I was willing to go to Longview Golf Course in Timonium, even in
the heat of migration. I did not even
take binoculars with me onto the course. I could not ignore the birds,
however. (My son was understanding about this.) Although I missed *many*
birds (including a brushy field filled with tantalizing sparrows), with open
ears and unassisted eyes, there were still a
couple of surprises, including twelve warblers.
Green Heron
Canada Goose
Mallard
Turkey Vulture
Red-shouldered Hawk
Mourning Dove
Belted Kingfisher
Pileated Woodpecker
little woodpecker (sp.)
Acadian Flycatcher
Eastern Kingbird
Barn Swallow
American Crow
Fish Crow
Tufted Titmouse
Carolina Wren
House Wren
Eastern Bluebird
American Robin
Wood Thrush
Gray Catbird
Northern Mockingbird
Cedar Waxwing
Red-eyed Vireo
Northern Parula
Yellow Warbler
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Blackpoll Warbler
Cerulean Warbler (singing)
Black-and-White Warbler
American Redstart
Ovenbird
Common Yellowthroat
Indigo Bunting
Chipping Sparrow
Song sparrow
Red-winged Blackbird
Baltimore Oriole
Purple Finch (singing)
American Goldfinch
Not a long list for the height of migration, I guess. But I did better with
my list than I did with my game.
Good birding, wherever!
