Spent 4 1/2 hours at Hughes Hollow today (5-06) from mid-morning to =
mid-afternoon. Walked from the impoundments to the river, then along =
the towpath to Sycamore Landing, back on the road to the first parking =
lot, and then cut through the fields back to the impoundments. Came =
here mainly to start my thrush and Cerulean Warbler surveys. Found 16 =
Wood Thrushes and 3 singing male Ceruleans. Had 58 species in all. =
Best finds were a Sora in the large impoundment along the causeway, a =
female Hooded Merganser which is probably nesting here, and an adult =
Yellow-crowned Night Heron at the first bridge as you are driving to =
Sycamore Landing. First species records for the year were Yellow-billed =
Cuckoo-2, Ruby-throated Hummingbird-3, Acadian Flycatcher-2, and =
Yellow-breasted Chat-2. Also of interest was pair of Prothonotary =
Warblers building a nest and a female Hooded Warbler. The only migrant =
warbler was an Ovenbird.
